This technique offers ‘instant’ solution templates that can be applied to almost any problem or situation. The raw material was gathered by going around shops, coffee bars, banks etc. and writing down our impressions of what was done there, and how it was done. This was not a business analysis, but just an observation exercise. From this material, ‘solutions’ were drawn up. They don’t mean anything at this stage, because they don’t have a context. That comes when you use them to address a problem. You are not going to solve your problem by being like Woolworths, you are just using a range of practical ideas (which will mean different things in different contexts) to trigger off some inspiration.
